The remarkable alloy composition with a vanadium content of almost 15 percent produces an exceptionally high volume of ultra-hard vanadium carbides, giving it the highest wear resistance of any cold work steel available today. To successfully transfer these properties to knife blades, Spyderco's CPM 15V knives are also hardened and tempered according to a special protocol developed by knifemaker Shawn Houston.
