Since 31st October 2024, there has been a general ban on the handling and possession of switchblade knives of all kinds in Germany. They are now prohibited objects and the possession thereof is a criminal offence. The possession of certain switchblade knives is prohibited in accordance with Annex 2 to the German Weapons law, Section 1, Number 1.4.1, and only permitted to persons who have a legitimate interest necessitating one-handed use (such as due to the loss of an arm or a missing or dysfunctional hand), or use them in connection with professional activities (e.g. hunting, crafts) or sports (e.g. sailing or mountaineering). The same applies to commercial dealers or manufacturers of such knives. Consequently, the sale is limited only to authorized individuals.
